Outdoor Weddings in Indiana

Congratulations on your engagement! Deciding when to get married outside is an important decision, it depends heavily on what the weather is doing that time of year. Indoor weddings aren’t affected by the weather nearly as much as an outdoor wedding, of course, but if you want a lot of outdoor pictures then the weather will come into play so keep that in mind. Let’s go ahead and discuss the best months to host your dream wedding in Central Indiana.

Best For Outdoor: May/June & September/October

Outdoor weddings are always risky in the Midwest due to constant weather changes, however you will have an increased chance of having a beautiful outdoor wedding in May & June, September & October. Always have a backup location indoors ready to go if you are planning an outdoor wedding. Let’s get into the specific benefits of planning your nuptials in these months.

The benefits of an outdoor wedding in May or June are that the average temperature in Lafayette, Indy, and surrounding areas are 60-84° F, the skies are typically clear, humidity hasn’t increased from winter yet, and the foliage is in full bloom. There’s a reason why so many Brides desire a June wedding, it is an absolutely stunning time of year to say “I Do.” Regardless of if you want an indoor or outdoor wedding, a wedding in May or June is sure to provide you with beautiful pictures and memories! Spring weddings create the perfect backdrop for BoHo, Elegant, and Rustic weddings.

The benefits of an outdoor wedding in September or October are that the average temperatures range from 52-78° Fahrenheit, which is very comfortable for an outdoor ceremony; and the leaves are either still bright green or are changing to those beautiful fall shades that we all adore. Fall weddings are particularly fitting for anyone who wants a Barn, Country Chic, or Down Home wedding. The changing colors of fall offer a wide variety of color pallets to use. Beautiful Sunsets are also an added perk of fall weddings, our team can’t get enough of those silhouette sunset poses.

Least desirable for Outdoor: Dec - Feb & July/Aug

Done correctly, outdoor weddings in these months may be wonderful!! Be prepared that there is an increased likelihood of unlucky days for weather, be it too hot, cold, humid, or wet. The temperature range for Lafayette, IN for July and August is 77-90° F with high humidity levels between 70-90%, not exactly comfortable in formal wear. December-February is prime time for subzero temperatures, snow, and ice. Winter weddings are beautiful - as long as winter stays outside.
